Irvon Cottage
  Irvon Cottage

This is a plan from Mr JS Carter to demolish the small Irvon Cottage in Irvon Hill Road, together with some derelict looking garages, and build a 2 storey block of 8 two bedroom flats, with 12 parking spaces.

Application Approved!
The revised application 07/00731/FULL was approved on 25th September 2007.

An earlier planning application 07/00027/FULL for a 3 storey building of 12 flats was refused unanimously at the planning meeting on 27th March. A Wickford Action Group member (Alan Ball) spoke against it as being over development within the Master plan area. His comments were replicated by Councillor Lynda Gordon, who also said "What's happening in Wickford? Whenever we see Wickford on the agenda it's for flats and more flats. It's a pretty town and here's yet another application for an ugly block of flats, totally out of keeping with the location"

The approved application was also objected to by the Wickford Action Group, on the grounds of overdevelopment and traffic problems in this road with its 2 schools, and the voting was even. It was therefore passed as usual on the casting vote of Sylvia Buckley.

Proposed 07/00027/FULL development (refused) for the site of Irvon Cottage.
Below- as it is now

The Wickford Action Group view
Yet another development of flats within the Masterplan area but NOT included in the plan. This is in addition to the newly built block of 9 flats, as yet unsold, across the street (Padda Court).

Irvon Hill Road gets extremely busy at school times, with the infant and junior schools nearby, and there is also the sheltered accommodation block opposite and youth club next door.

There is a possibility that Irvon Cottage is a listed building, but we have not been able to confirm it.

We regard this as another example of the over-development of the town, and it offers no benefits for existing residents.
