23 - 25 The BroadwayFrom: C Norton Comments23 - 25 The Broadway has been granted planning permission! Comment from Wickford Action Group Yet more flats in the Masterplan area, and yet again council planning is undermined by the inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Let's hope the reverse happens with the CPO for Lower Southend Road on 7th July, even more flats planned in the same area! But we don't hold much hope - the government inspectors seem to allow everything! The Inspector's conclusion (paragraph 11) is that 'there is no unified architectural style in the town centre of Wickford', and that since developments are already underway nearby (1-29 Lower Southend Road, 2-12 The Broadway, 3-31 Runwell Road and a mixed residential conversion within the Willows Shopping Centre), 'I do not see the proposed front elevation of the appeal development being out of character with these surrounding developments' The implication of the inspector's words seem to be: 'you live in a dump, and we're going to see it's an even bigger dump' What hope do we have to preserve our town when we have a council and a government hell bent on this destruction?
