Why Wickford?

A SHORT road in Wickford is called Crouch Drive. 
   There used to be quite a number of really tall conifers and these trees were cut down to ground level, which gave the people who live in the bungalows and houses in Crouch Drive a view of sorts. 
    I think these particular people now wish that the conifers were back there again because all these people can now see is a large block of flats and what a total monstrosity that faces them. 
   Wickford is changing. In the time my wife and I have lived here, the architects and builders are knocking down old Wickford and putting up flats and more flats. 
   Why Wickford?
