AT present Wickford has a very good letter delivery service, but this is in jeopardy by the actions of Basildon Council applying for the compulsory purchase order of land in Lower Southend Road.
   Basildon Council wants to demolish the Post Office delivery sorting office for the construction of a monstrosity of a building of flats - or is it a new Essex prison?
   Wickford delivery office is in a central position which is convenient for both residents and local business.
   As of yet, I have not read of any proposals from Basildon Council regarding a new possible site for it.
   It would appear the Wickford councillors, to their shame, are more interested in supporting property developers to fill up the centre of Wickford with flats, than to look after the interest of residents regarding the delivery of mail which the local councillors themselves enjoy.
