Listen to the people!
Message to councillors - Listen to the people

Yellow Advertiser Letters page, 22 November 2007, from Victor York, Laindon

CAN I take this opportunity to offer a few words of helpful advice to elected councillors in Basildon?
Are they aware that the majority of people I speak to in Laindon are already very angry with both prospective developers and elected representatives?
Some councillors seem to think Laindon's shops went only from the existing centre as far as the Triangle. Wrong!
We had shops from the Fortune of War to well past the station.

Back in April this year (front page of Yellow Advertiser) we were promised by the leader of the council that 'of course, as soon as the management of the Laindon Centre is transferred, we will be started to draw up a masterplan'.

Developers are trying to force huge amounts of flats in to our town. Come on Basildon Council, you have had six months to put together a scheme to safeguard the long-term future and give Laindon plans for a town in which we can take pride.

Get on with it, produce a scheme, listen to what we have to say and stop money grabbing companies from developing what is left of our town.
