Homes due on
prison site
Letters page, Echo 21
April
2010
SO more than 3,000 people signed a petition saying
they didn't want a prison on the Runwell Hospital site.
When questioned in Wickford High Street, the people asking
residents to sign their petition were not very open with the true facts. When
asked whether there were any other proposals for the site they replied: "No,
we want it to remain green belt"
No mention was made of the plan for 624 homes on the site, a plan
already approved by Chelmsford Council.
The impact of that number of new homes on the infrastructure of
Wickford would far outweigh the effect of the proposed prison on the site.
I just believe Wickford residents should be aware of what might be
foisted upon them instead of the proposed prison.
Wickford has already been lumbered with so many flats, and a failed
master plan, without any infrastructure improvements, and Basildon Council's
failed actions will also mean a minimum of 250 houses will be built at Barn
Hall.
So please, Wickford people, wake up to what is really happening to your
town.
